Growing Up In God's Word (Bible Curriculum Review)

We have been studying Exodus this year for a Bible quiz we will be participating in at church. The opportunity came along for me to review a Bible curriculum  that focused on Exodus. I thought that this would be a great help in our studies. 

This book has been wonderful!!! Each lesson is designed to be used for 5 days of the week. It is suggested that you use it for 30 minutes to an hour each day. 

One of my favorite things about the curriculum is that both my kindergartener and 5^th grader are using it together and both are gaining a tremendous amount of Bible knowledge. 

We have really enjoyed the lesson text and discussion. My 5^th grader commented one day, “Whew!!! That is detailed stuff!”

They have also enjoyed being able to use their Legos with some of the lessons. One day they created a diorama of the parting of the Red Sea.

 Another day my younger son used Legos to show the three signs that the Lord enabled Moses to perform. He was able to present his sculptures later that night and explain to his dad what he learned during our family Bible study. 

The activities really help make the lessons come alive and increase our understanding of the Bible. I loved the discussions that we had while making unleavened bread. 

 

The boys were able to understand what leaven does and why the Israelites were not supposed to use it. When my older son asked if we could add pepper to the unleavened bread, we  talked about obedience and how when God told the Israelites to do something, they were supposed to do exactly as God commanded.

It is great that not only are my children learning, but my understanding of Exodus has increased as well.

Make a Successful Media Kit, Book Review + Giveaway

I am not new to blogging, but I am new to using my blog to earn money. I have had a hard time trying to find a good resource on making a media kit. I recently got the opportunity to review Richele McFarlin’s new e-book, The Essential Guide to Successful Publicity Kits.  

It is written mainly for bloggers, speakers, and authors.  This book has a media kit, author kit, and speaker kit. It also explains the different kits and the essentials you will need in each kit.  In fact, the information on how to write a bio was just what I needed!

The most helpful resource for me was the printable checklists. These checklists allow you to write things out so you can easily organize the information. There are also templates included to show you how to place your information.  Another great resource is the sample finished kits which give you a better idea how your kit should look. 

I now feel confident that I have everything I need to make a great media kit. I am excited to get started!

Bob Books Review

Disclaimer: I received a free Bob Book for Kindle in exchange for a review. The free book did not influence my opinion in any way. 

We reviewed Bob Books Sight Words: Kindergarten [Kindle Edition].  This  particular group of books introduces 30 of the easiest and most common sight words. The Kindle version does not include the flash cards, but it indicates at the beginning of the book which sight words will be reviewed in each story. There are only three new sight words per book.

 

I have loved using Bob Books since my older child first started reading at age 3.

Now my younger child is starting to read. He was a little less eager to start reading than his brother was--until I introduced Bob Books for Kindle!

Now he is eager to read and wants to read more than one book at a time. These books have really boosted his confidence and make him want to read. I think part of the reason is that he likes being able to read them on his Kindle.  He said, "I like to read the books on my Kindle better than reading from a book."  

The stories are funny, which makes them more interesting to kids. Each of the books in this 10 book set is 12 pages long.

When you hear that word, what kind of images does it evoke in your mind?

For my family, I want them to know our home is a happy, warm place—a place where they can come after a tough day and snuggle under a crochet blanket, on a well worn couch and rest their weary body.

 I want them to know that our home is a place of protection from the outside world. And we will always find comfort in prayer.

I want them to know our home is a place where our bodies are nourished with warm, comforting food and our souls are nourished with the word of God .

I want them to know our home is a place where wonderful memories are made—memories that will live forever in our minds.

 I want them to know our home is a place where there will be love, peace, laughter, togetherness, and lots of hugs.

I want our home to be a place of refreshing and comfort in this cold dark world.
At the beginning of last year, I challenged my family to come up with words that we want to describe the focus of our home and family. I took the words they gave me and framed them. They are now displayed in the kitchen for us and anyone that enters our home to read. Listed below are some of the words:
